1
Start with fresh, cold water

Re-boiled water is flat — it has lost its dissolved oxygen.

2
Warm the pot or mug first

A splash of hot water, swirled and tipped out. Keeps the brew hotter.

3
One teaspoon of leaves per cup

…and one for the pot, if you are feeling traditional.

4
Water just off the boil

Black tea: boiling. Green tea: ~80°C, or it turns bitter.

5
Steep 3–5 minutes — and time it

Guessing leads to stewed, bitter tea. Use a timer.

6
Milk in first or last?

Last lets you judge the strength. First is gentler on the leaves. Choose your side and defend it.
